Kickstarter and Gamefound Weren’t the Right Fit
Kickstarter is one of the most popular crowdfunding platforms, but unfortunately, it doesn’t support creators from our country. The alternative—setting up a U.S. incorporation and using Stripe—was a logistical challenge we didn’t want to tackle. For a first-time project, we wanted to focus on what matters most: creating an amazing game and engaging with our supporters.
Gamefound, on the other hand, is an incredible platform tailored specifically for board games. However, it tends to cater to larger projects—big-box games with sprawling components and expansive campaigns. While that’s fantastic for many creators, Battle Tactics is a smaller, pocket-sized game. Gamefound’s vibe just didn’t feel quite right for this project.
Why BackerKit Stood Out
BackerKit immediately felt like the right choice. As an indie creator, I appreciated the platform’s supportive community and its focus on projects of all sizes, including smaller games like Battle Tactics. It felt like a space where a quick, strategic card game could truly shine.
Another major advantage of BackerKit is its built-in pledge manager. This tool simplifies the entire process for both creators and backers, making it easier to manage pledges, add-ons, and updates. It’s a huge win for a small team like ours, allowing us to focus more on the game and less on logistics.
Perhaps what impressed me most was BackerKit’s communication. Even in the early stages of preparing our campaign, their team has been incredibly helpful and responsive. It’s clear that they care about supporting creators, and that level of attention gave me the confidence to launch our first game on their platform.
